US beam imports down 39.6 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 39,104 mt in March 2023, down 39.6 percent from February and down 42.7 percent from March 2022 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $46.4 million in March 2023, compared to $73.8 million in February and $84.9 million in March 2022.

The US imported the most beams from Mexico in March, with 10,884 mt, compared to 8,810 mt in February and 15,074 mt in March 2022. Other top sources of imported beam in March include Canada, with 10,680 mt; South Korea, with 8,794 mt; Germany, with 4,628 mt; and Spain, with 1,251 mt.
