US beam imports down 34.6 percent in June

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 44,042 mt in June 2019, down 34.6 percent from May but up 116.0 percent from June 2018 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $28.9 million in June 2019, compared to $48.2 million in the previous month and $16.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most beams from Luxembourg in June, with 16,560 mt, compared to 12,527 mt in May and 8,970 mt in June 2018. Other top sources of imported beams in June include UAE, with 9,603 mt; Mexico, with 6,111 mt; Taiwan, with 4,782 mt; and Canada, with 3,652 mt.
