According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 29,966 mt in June 2019, up 33.8 percent from May but down 30.3 percent from June 2018 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $27.8 million in June, compared to $22.4 million in the previous month and $42.8 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in June with 23,882 mt, compared to 17,825 mt in May and 35,382 mt in June 2018. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 3,591 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 1,142 mt.
