US beam exports up 33.2 percent in March

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 59,873 mt in March 2018, up 33.2 percent from February and up 81.8 percent from March 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $53.2 million in March, compared to $39.8 million in the previous month and $31.0 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in March with 50,990 mt, compared to 37,519 mt in February and 26,172 mt in March 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 6,538 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in March.
