US beam exports up 16.9 percent in February

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 23,831 mt in February 2019, up 16.9 percent from January but down 46.9 percent from February 2018 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $24.6 million in February, compared to $22.0 million in the previous month and $39.8 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in February with 19,178 mt, compared to 15,220 mt in January and 37,519 mt in February 2018. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 2,742 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US export beams in February.
