US beam exports up 11.7 percent in March

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 42,218 mt in March 2023, up 11.7 percent from February but down 6.1 percent from March 2022. By value, beam exports totaled $52.2 million in March, compared to $47.6 million in the previous month and $65.2 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in March with 27,407 mt, compared to 25,755 mt in February and 34,712 mt in March 2022. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 12,694 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 1,117 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam for exports in March.
