According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 26,331 mt in March 2019, up 10.5 percent from February but down 56.0 percent from March 2018 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $25.9 million in March, compared to $24.6 million in the previous month and $53.2 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in March with 20,763 mt, compared to 19,178 mt in February and 50,990 mt in March 2018. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 3,185 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in March.
