According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 26,495 mt in April 2019, up 0.6 percent from March but down 50.7 percent from April 2018 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $25.3 million in April, compared to $25.9 million in the previous month and $49.1 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in April with 21,893 mt, compared to 20,763 mt in March and 45,925 mt in April 2018. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 2,683 mt. There were no other major destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in April.
