US beam exports drop 5.6 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 50,714 mt in May 2018, down 5.6 percent from April but up 69.6 percent from May 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $47.9 million in May, compared to $49.1 million in the previous month and $26.6 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beam to Canada in May with 40,817 mt, compared to 45,925 mt in April and 23,877 mt in May 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 8,261 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in May.
