US beam exports down 9.2 percent in October

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 23,392 mt in October 2018, down 9.2 percent from September and down 53.4 percent from October 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $25.3 million in October, compared to $27.6 million in the previous month and $42.7 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in October with 17,249 mt, compared to 17,988 mt in September and 45,058 mt in October 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 4,971 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in October.
