US beam exports down 23.2 percent in July

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 32,986 mt in July 2018, down 23.2 percent from June and down 2.1 percent from July 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $35.1 million in July, compared to $42.8 million in the previous month and $30.4 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beam to Canada in July with 27,578 mt, compared to 42,971 mt in June and 33,705 mt in July 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 6,489 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in July.
