US beam exports down 20.9 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 24,688 mt in May 2020, down 20.9 percent from April but up 10.2 percent from May 2019 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $22.2 million in May, compared to $27.2 million in the previous month and $22.4 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in May with 20,065 mt, compared to 24,771 mt in April and 17,825 mt in May 2019. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 2,230 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 1,344 mt.
