US beam exports down 1.8 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 72,004 mt in May 2023, down 1.8 percent from April but up 92.9 percent from May 2022. By value, beam exports totaled $45.5 million in May, compared to $53.1 million in the previous month and $51.6 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in May with 26,588 mt, compared to 27,612 mt in April and 27,694 mt in May 2022. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 7,042 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in May.
