According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 22,397 mt in May 2019, down 15.5 percent from April and down 55.8 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $22.4 million in May, compared to $25.3 million in the previous month and $47.9 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in May with 17,825 mt, compared to 21,893 mt in April and 40,817 mt in May 2018. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 2,578 mt. There were no other major destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US export beams in May.
