According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 22,896 mt in December 2019, down 12.0 percent from November but up 7.8 percent from December 2018 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $20.2 million in December, compared to $22.4 million in the previous month and $22.2 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in December with 19,337 mt, compared to 19,687 mt in November and 16,133 mt in December 2018. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 2,808 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in December.
