US beam exports down 11.9 percent in August

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 29,048 mt in August 2018, down 11.9 percent from July and down 30.5 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $30.6 million in August, compared to $35.1 million in the previous month and $37.9 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in August with 25,173 mt, compared to 27,589 mt in July and 35,141 mt in August 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 3,173 mt. There were no other major destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in August.
