US beam exports down 10.3 percent in April

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 53,736 mt in April 2018, down 10.3 percent from March but up 69.5 percent from April 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $49.1 million in April, compared to $53.2 million in the previous month and $29.5 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in April with 45,925 mt, compared to 50,990 mt in March and 24,748 mt in April 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 6,110 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in April.
