In August this year, Turkey’s motor vehicle sales totaled 90,381 units, down by 22.1 percent compared to July and increasing by 72.8 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers’ Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey’s passenger car sales totaled 66,131 units, up 87.7 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the January-August period of this year, Turkey’s motor vehicle sales amounted to 788,197 units, growing by 63.1 percent on year-on-year basis.
In the eight months of the current year, Turkey’s motor vehicle exports totaled 656,750 units, up 11.1 percent, while passenger car exports increased by 25.5 percent to 425,934 units, both year on year. In the same period, the country exported 184,512 small trucks, down 12.7 percent year on year. In the given period, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports advanced by 17.3 percent to $23.30 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $7.15 billion, rising by 27.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In August, Turkey’s total motor vehicle imports amounted to 66,549 units, down by 15.1 percent month on month and rising by 112.3 percent year on year, while passenger car imports totaled 51,645 units, decreasing by 21.3 percent compared to the previous month and up 118.2 percent, year on year. In the January-August period of this year, the country’s total motor vehicle imports amounted to 497,182 units, moving up by 85.6 percent, while passenger car imports totaled 399,499 units, increasing by 84.3 percent, both compared to the same period of 2022.
