Turkey’s steel import volume down 10.7 percent in January-October

In October this year, Turkey’s steel imports increased by 32.8 percent to 1.66 million mt, year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). 

In the month of October, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports increased by 30.7 percent to 543,000 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports rose by 37.3 percent to 860,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In October, total long steel product imports were up by 9.4 percent to 138,000 mt, year on year.

In October, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 90 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 111 percent in the same month of 2016.

In the first ten months of this year, the country’s steel imports decreased by 10.7 percent to 13.5 million mt, year on year.

In the January-October period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 28.3 percent to 3.9 million mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports increased by 2.4 percent to 7.5 million mt, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 107 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 95 percent in the same period of 2016.
