According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in September this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports increased by 63 percent year on year, totaling $1.63 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in fourth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In the first nine months of this year, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $11.74 billion, increasing by 23.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In September, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 15th among the products with the highest import value, amounted to $263.67 million in value, rising by 30.9 percent year on year. In the first nine months of this year, the value of Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel was down 7.2 percent to $2.09 billion compared to the same period of 2016.
