Turkey's steel import value up 14.5 percent in Q1

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in March this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports increased by 19.5 percent year on year, totaling $1.3 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in fifth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In the first quarter of this year, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $3.44 billion, increasing by 14.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
In March, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 13th among the products with the highest import value, amounted to $266.58 million in value, increasing by 9.4 percent year on year. In the first three months of this year, the value of Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel was down 18.6 percent to $686.19 million compared to the same period of 2016.
