Turkey’s iron ore imports down 32.3 percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports totaled 616,500 mt, rising by 47.4 percent compared to April and by 25.9 percent compared to the same month of 2022, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports was down by 22.2 percent year on year and up by 36.2 percent month on month to $84.32 million.

In the first five months of this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports amounted to 2.87 million mt, falling by 32.3 percent, while the value of these imports moved down by 39.0 percent to $361.56 million, both compared to same period of 2022.

In the given month, Turkey’s iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 1.99 million mt, up 18.9 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 489,777 mt, while Turkey’s iron ore imports from Russia in the given month amounted to 138,340 mt.
