In August this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports totaled 1.13 million mt, rising by 78.2 percent compared to the previous month and by 41.3 percent compared to the same month of 2022, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports was up by 6.2 percent year on year and by 94.4 percent month on month to $143.61 million.
In the first eight months of this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports amounted to 5.36 million mt, falling by 23.0 percent, while the value of these imports moved down by 36.4 percent to $680.49 million, both compared to same period of 2022.
In the given period, Turkey’s iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 3.49 million mt, up 23.5 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 819,785 mt, while Turkey’s iron ore imports from Russia in the same period amounted to 218,707 mt.
