Texas Governor Greg Abbott today inaugurated a distribution center in the border city of Laredo, Texas, of the US company Mid-Continent Steel and Wire, owned by the Mexican steel giant DeAcero, the company said in a press release.

Mid-Continent Steel and Wire, according to the statement, is one of the largest wire manufacturers in North America and the largest nail manufacturer in the United States.

The investment for the new distribution center of almost 28,000 square meters required an investment of $22 million. The facilities began operations last month, but today was the formal opening of the commercial establishment located at 18515 West Peak Road in Laredo.

Those facilities are 17 miles from the US-Mexico border line and 150 miles north of the northern Mexican city of Monterrey, the home of DeAcero's headquarters.

Raúl Gutiérrez, President and CEO of Grupo Deacero, joined the governor.
