In December last year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 42 percent to 766,000 mt, while the value of these imports moved down by 36 percent to $719 million, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of December, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 38 percent to 277,000 mt, while its flat steel imports fell by 44.4 percent to 365,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In December, total long steel product imports were down by 40 percent to 74,000 mt, year on year.
In December, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 227 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 117 percent in the same month of 2017.
In 2018, the country’s steel imports decreased by 11.3 percent to 14.5 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 3.3 percent to $12.8 billion, both on year-on-year basis.
In 2018, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 1.5 percent to 4.8 million mt, while its flat steel imports declined by 17 percent to 7.5 million mt, both year on year. In the same year, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 1.3 million mt, falling by 9.8 percent year on year. Pipe imports were registered as 486,000 mt in this period, declining 5.4 percent year on year.
Last year, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 138 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 108 percent in 2017.
