Tata Steel commences construction of EAF-based steel mill in Punjab

Indian steelmaker Tata Steel Limited has commenced construction of a scrap-using electric arc furnace-based 750,000 mt per year capacity mill with a ground breaking ceremony in Ludhiana in the northern state of Punjab, a company statement indicated on Monday, October 23.

“We are commencing a new journey of transition towards more sustainable EAF-based steelmaking and this will be our journey towards decarbonization of steelmaking, Tata Steel chief executive officer T. V. Narendran said.

This will be Tata Steel Limited’s first low-carbon green steel mill in India, the statement said.
