Taiwan’s CSC sees increase in March steel output over February

Taiwan's largest steelmaker China Steel Corporation (CSC) has announced that in March this year its steel production volume totaled 758,378 metric tons, increasing 3.9 percent compared to February and down 7.5 percent compared to the same month last year. In the first quarter of 2012, the company's steel production amounted to 2.09 million mt, down 4.8 percent year on year.
     
In March, CSC's sales volume was 811,271 metric tons, up 18.9 percent compared to the previous month and down 1.2 percent year on year. In January-March, the sales volume decreased by 6.2 percent to 2.14 million mt compared to the corresponding period of 2011.

In the month in question, the steelmaker's sales revenues amounted to NTD 19.52 billion ($661.10 million), increasing by 17.3 percent month on month and down 2.9 percent year on year. In the first quarter of the current year, CSC's sales revenues amounted to NTD 52.18 billion ($1.76 billion), down 5.6 percent compared to the first quarter of 2011.
