Turkey’s pig iron imports - Last 12 months
In the given period, Turkey’s largest pig iron import source was Russia, which supplied 333,756 mt, up 151.1 percent year on year. Russia was followed by India with 50,950 mt and Kazakhstan with 9,918 mt, down 61.2 percent year on year.
The 86.5 percent increase in imports in the January-February period was mainly driven by shipments from Russia, which rose by 151.1 percent and accounted for the majority of the total volume, while the 25.5 percent month-on-month decline recorded in February indicates that purchases were made in large batches rather than following a steady flow. On the supply side, Russia’s clearly dominant position stands out, while the emergence of India as a new supplier and the sharp decline in imports from Kazakhstan point to a shift in sourcing patterns.
