In March this year, Turkey’s pig iron imports amounted to 221,029 metric tons, up by 31.2 percent compared to February and down by 5.9 percent year on year, according to the preliminary data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the value of these imports totaled $77.89 million, increasing by 34.4 percent compared to the previous month and decreasing by 6.5 percent year on year.
In the January-March period, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 615,653 mt, up 37.9 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 30.6 percent to $214.39 million, both year on year.

In the January-March period of 2025, Turkey’s pig iron imports were mainly supplied by Russia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and Germany, while in the same period of 2026 the supply structure shifted toward a narrower group of countries. Russia strengthened its position as by far the largest supplier, with imports rising by 87.2 percent year on year to 552,977 mt. India, from which no imports were recorded in the same period last year, ranked second with 50,950 mt, while imports from Kazakhstan fell by 82.7 percent to 11,726 mt. Meanwhile, the absence of imports this year from Indonesia, Germany, Norway and Iran, which were on last year’s list, was notable. The overall picture shows that the increase in Turkey’s pig iron imports was largely driven by Russia, while India emerged as a new supplier and the supply distribution changed significantly as some of last year’s sources dropped out.
