Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that its Izhora Pipe Mill (IPM), which specializes in the manufacturing of large diameter pipes using strips produced by Severstal's Cherepovets Steel Mill, will dispatch 33,000 mt of large diameter pipes with diameter of 1,420 mm and lengths of 12 meters and 18 meters from steel grades K60 and K65 for construction of the Southern Corridor and Bovanenkovo-Ukhta (second branch) pipelines, and for repairs and production at Russian gas monopoly Gazprom.
Izhora pipe plant is experienced in participation in such projects which are characterized by unique production specifications. In particular, Izhora pipe plant was one of the first Russian companies to develop technology for pipe production from steel of the high-durability K65 grade.
The Bovanenkovo-Ukhta gas transportation system will deliver gas from the Bovanenkovo field to Russia's central regions and on to consumers in Europe, while the Southern Corridor gas pipeline system will provide additional capacity to ship gas to southern and central Russia and will provide an uninterrupted supply of gas for the South Stream gas pipeline, as indicated by the Moscow-based Interfax news agency.
