Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, has in November delivered the first 35 mt test batch of high strength steel grade S550MC to KAMAZ, one of the largest automobile corporations in the Russian Federation.

This is the second high strength steel grade jointly mastered by the companies in question. The first high strength steel grade, S500MC, was developed at Severstal Cherepovets in 2007.

The steel grades S500MC and S550MC will allow KAMAZ to increase the safety of its automobiles and to decrease the thickness of components without the risk of reducing their strength. Currently, the automobile maker is using these steel grades to reinforce the strength of truck frames.
