New car registrations in Germany up 19 percent in May

In May this year, new passenger car registrations in Germany rose by 19.0 percent to 246,966 units compared to the same month of 2022, according to the data released by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, new passenger car registrations moved up by 10.0 percent year on year to 1,116,731 units.

According to the VDA, in May new registrations of electric vehicles increased by eight percent year on year to 56,617 units. In the January-May period this year, new registrations of electric vehicles amounted to 230,513 units, moving down by seven percent year on year.

In May, German passenger car manufacturers produced 380,100 units, up 25.0 percent compared to May 2022. In the first five months of the year, passenger car manufacturers produced 1,838,200 units, up 32.0 percent from the same period of last year.
