Heavy truck production in Mexico increased 38.9 percent, year-over-year, in May to 18,728 units, the fifth consecutive annual increase and the highest volume in the last four years for the same month, according to SteelOrbis analysis of the data from the national statistics office Inegi.
Heavy truck exports increased 34.1 percent to 14,845 units in May.
Accumulated production in the first five months was 93,968 units, and exports totaled 75,264 trucks, figures that represented annualized increases of 27.0 and 22.6 percent, respectively.
According to Inegi, the United States was the main export market, buying 95.8 percent of the heavy trucks sent for foreign trade from January to May.
Retail sales in the Mexican market increased 44.1 percent, year-over-year, in May to 4,618 units, the best May in the last four years. In the accumulated five months, 19,959 units were sold, 32.9 percent more, compared to the same period last year.
The production information from Inegi comes from the 10 companies affiliated with the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT) and from the unaffiliated company, Sparta Motors, which is owned by China's Shaanxi Automobile.
