The Russian mining and steel producing group Mechel has announced that, as a result of an audit conducted by international certification organization TUV SUD, its ferroalloy producing subsidiary Tikhvin Smelting Plant (TFZ) has obtained the certificate of compliance with the quality management system standard ISO 9001:2008. TFZ is consolidated within Oriel Resources Ltd., which is Mechel's ferroalloy sub-holding.

"Having obtained the certificate of compliance with the international quality management system standard ISO 9001:2008, TFZ has strengthened its market positions and proved the strong competitiveness of Mechel's enterprises," Oriel Resources Ltd.'s CEO Alexey Ivanushkin commented.

TFZ manufactures high quality high carbon ferrochrome which is used mainly for stainless steel production. Its ferrochrome is consumed by Mechel's subsidiaries and is also supplied to the market. About 85 percent of TFZ's sales to the market consist of export sales to Japan, US, Germany, India, China and others. "TFZ's products are in high demand in both the domestic and international markets. This is the youngest ferroalloy plant in Russia; here we have up-to-date powerful equipment and experienced specialists," Mr. Ivanushkin stated.
