In September this year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland totaled 230,080 metric tons, increasing significantly compared to the low level of 90,500 mt recorded in August, and also up 20.4 percent compared to the same month of 2012, according to the monthly data released by the Port Hedland Port Authority.

According to the released information, China was the only export destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland in September this year, as in August. In September 2012, China's manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland totaled only 63,000 mt.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
