In June this year, Japanese crude steel production was down six percent compared to the previous month and decreased 4.3 percent compared to June last year, totaling 8.39 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).
Meanwhile, in June of the current year Japan's pig iron production totaled 6.25 million metric tons, falling by 6.7 percent compared to the previous month and falling 6.1 percent year on year.
In the first half of this year, the country's pig iron output stood at 39.17 million metric tons, down 2.3 percent, while its crude steel production came to 52.3 million metric tons, rising 0.5 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
