In August this year, Japanese crude steel production was up by 4.6 percent compared to the previous month and rose by 0.9 percent compared to August last year, totaling 8.8 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).
Meanwhile, in August of the current year Japan's pig iron production totaled 6.75 million metric tons, rising by 7.2 percent compared to the previous month and increasing by 1.1 percent year on year.
In the January-August period of this year, the country's pig iron output stood at 52.28 million metric tons, down 0.2 percent, while its crude steel production came to 70.19 million metric tons, rising 0.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
