According to Federacciai, the Italian federation of steel companies, Italy’s domestic crude steel production fell by 8.8 percent year on year in December, totaling 1.2 million mt. In 2024, total production amounted to 20.0 million mt, marking a 5.0 percent decrease compared to 2023.

In December, Italy’s production of long products decreased by 4.7 percent year on year to 682,000 mt, bringing the total for 2024 to 11.7 million mt, a slight decrease of 0.2 percent compared to 2023. Meanwhile, Italian flat steel output in December broke the downward trend of the February-November period with a 3.2 percent year-on-year increase to 639,000 mt. This brought the 2024 flat steel output down by 9.7 percent year on year to a total of 8.6 million mt.
