Vietnam-based steelmaker Hoa Phat Group’s steel sales in January only reached 175,800 mt, compared to 250,000 mt in the same month of 2019, down 38.3 percent month on month, amid the Lunar New Year holiday in both China and Vietnam. Meanwhile, in the south of the country, steel sales continued to rise, amounting to 34,571 mt, up 41 percent year on year, thanks to the quick and adequate supply of products from Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex.

In January, the company exported 27,000 mt of finished steel to Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and Australia. In addition, Hoa Phat’s billet exports amounted to more than 60,000 mt.

Hoa Phat’s crude steel production in the given month from its plants in Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Dung Quat rose slightly to 280,000 mt compared to the same period of the previous year.
