As reported by Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in 2012 the average producer prices of industrial products in Germany rose by 2.1 percent compared to 2011, while the increase rates of 5.7 percent and 1.6 percent had been recorded in 2011 and 2010 respectively.

Energy exerted the biggest influence on the annual rate of change in producer prices last year, with energy 3.7 percent more expensive in 2012 than in 2011. Prices for basic metals, however, were on average lower by three percent than in 2011.

In December last year, German producers' rolled steel prices fell by 1.2 percent compared to the same month of 2011, continuing the downward movement on year-on-year basis seen since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, in December rolled prices in Germany decreased by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month last year.
