Euro area industrial output up 0.1 percent in Sept from Aug

In September this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.1 percent in the euro area and by 0.2 percent in the EU-28, as compared with August. Industrial production in August had increased by 0.4 percent in the euro area and remained stable in the EU-28, on month-on-month basis. In September this year compared with September 2018, industrial production fell by 1.7 percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to August, in September this year the production of capital goods increased by 0.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods increased by one percent in the euro area and by 0.9 percent in the EU-28. In September this year, the production of energy was down by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, and the production of durable goods fell by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods fell by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-28, month on month.

Among the member states, in September the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Ireland (8.8%), Hungary (3.1%) and Denmark, Croatia and Lithuania (all 2.5%), and the highest decreases in Malta (3.7%), Portugal (2.3%) and Estonia (1.5%).

As compared to the same month of 2018, in September this year production of energy decreased by 2.6 percent in the euro area and by 2.8 percent in the EU-28. In the same month, production of intermediate goods fell by 3.9 percent in the euro area and by 3.3 percent in the EU-28, and production of capital goods moved down by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by one percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In September this year, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 2.4 percent in the EU-28 and production of durable consumer goods was down by 0.8 percent in the euro area and up by 0.7 percent in the EU-28, all year-on-year basis.

Among the member states for which data are available, in September the largest year-on-year decreases in industrial production were registered in Germany (5.3%), Portugal (5.0%) and Estonia (4.8%), while the highest increases were observed in Hungary (9.0%), Lithuania (7.8%) and Latvia (7.2%).
