End of CECA existence

CECA officially ceased to exist yesterday after 50 years as a regulatory entity for steel and coal in Europe. Both industries have been drastically transformed as now Europe produces 159 million tons of steel (compared with 39 in 1953) and just half the people. The coal industry only employs 81,000 people against 1.86 million. Total coal production is down to 83 million mt against 485 million at its start.
