UK-based premium steel manufacturer British Steel has announced that it has extended its rail supply contract with Network Rail, which owns and operates the railway infrastructure in England, Wales and Scotland on behalf of the nation.

According to British Steel’s statement, more than half-a-million mt (9,000 km) of high quality rail will already have been supplied by the company when the two companies’ current five-year contract finishes in March next year. When this agreement concludes, a two-year extension will begin which will see British Steel supply Network Rail with over 200,000 mt (4,000 km) of rail.
