The Elba Express Project aims to increase the amount of natural gas supplied to the eastern and southeastern areas of the US, in particular to Georgia. The annual capacity of the pipeline, foreseen to be completed in mid-2010 and to reach 312 km in length, will be 34 million cubic meters.
For the project in question, BMB will produce 36"and 42" API grade epoxy coated spiral pipes at its Izmit mill, which has an annual production capacity of about 200,000 tons of large diamater spiral pipes.
Commenting on the tender, BMB General Manager Tayfun İşeri said, "At Borusan Mannesmann Boru, we have been gaining a great advantage on our competitors with the quality of the products we supply and our high compatibility to on-time delivery conditions in big international pipeline projects in recent years. The US tender in question, proves the strength of our global competition power".
Having successfully undertaken many important projects so far such as the Turkey stage of the Baku-Tiflis-Ceyhan Pipeline, the Turkey-Greece Natural Gas Pipeline, Sahdeniz Pipeline, and NK-1 and GZ-1 in Algeria, BMB has also supplied pipes to important natural gas projects in Iran and Israel.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, BMB is currently constructing a new mill in Spain, which will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of spiral pipes.
