Prominent US consulting firm Pittsburg-based Bender Consulting has announced its predictions for key global trends in merger and acquisition (M&A) activity for the high tech industry, referring to US protectionism towards Chinese companies as one of the factors that adds risk and uncertainty to the area.

The report predicts that M&A-related activity will have the biggest impact on the high tech sector in 2010, but pointed out that various factors might set obstacles for Chinese companies looking to increase M&A activities and acquire Western companies in 2010.

Besides naming business and cultural differences, the managing of different requirements for deal structure, multiple legal and regulatory schemes and security laws among the obstacles, the report said, "Increasing US protectionism on products ranging from tires to steel piping add risk and uncertainty to the playing field."

SteelOrbis recently reported on the pending antidumping and countervailing duty cases and verdicts issued by the US against Chinese steel imports including seamless pipe, OCTG, drill pipe and wire decking.
