At least eight auto parts companies from the US, Canada and China are considering investing for the first time in the municipality of Garcia, Nuevo Leon. Just one company could create up to 10,000 jobs, the director of the town's Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism told SteelOrbis.

“A very strong investment wave is coming with the arrival of Tesla. The suppliers of that company are already looking to invest in García,” commented Raul Nefthali Chavez Rodriguez in a phone interview.

“There are eight companies, mainly from the United States, Canada and China,” he said, although the number of foreign companies could increase because they are already working on investment promotion with the state government of Nuevo Leon.

In March, the US electric vehicle producer Tesla, Inc. announced that it will invest $5 billion in a gigafactory in the city of Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon (15 miles south of Garcia).

Regarding Foreign Direct Investment due to the arrival of Tesla, Chavez Rodriguez said that currently the industrial parks have installed capacity to receive at least 20 foreign companies.

The official said that the companies already installed in the town are also beginning their expansion projects.

Regarding the new jobs that could be generated in the municipality by the new investments (domestic and foreign), the official said he was unaware because "only one of the companies told us that it could generate between 6,000 and 10,000 new jobs."
