Following the recent preliminary anti-dumping duties imposed by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) on imported silicon metal from Brazil, Australia, and Norway, sources inform SteelOrbis that the price of silicon metal has increased and is now reportedly at $2755-2840/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh. According to sources, the present midpoint price of $2798/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh has increased 27 percent compared to the beginning of the year when prices were at $2200/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh.
On September 13, SteelOrbis reported silicon metal prices at $2,700-2,777/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh. Compared to a month ago, prices have increased $55/mt from the bottom of the previously reported range and $63/mt from the top of the same range. A source noted that prices “may tick up further” during the upcoming 2018 negotiations.
On October 5, the DOC announced affirmative preliminary determinations in the antidumping duty (AD) investigations on silicon metal, finding that exporters from Australia, Brazil, and Norway sold this merchandise in the United States at less than fair value. Preliminary dumping rates range from 20.79 percent, 56.78 percent to 134.92 percent, and 3.74 percent, respectively, for the three countries.
