Soft scrap prices and toppling HRC prices have done little to keep US line pipe prices stable.

Last week, SteelOrbis reported that spot market prices were trending at an average of $56-$59 cwt. ($1,235-$1,301/mt or $1,120-$1,180/nt), ex-mill, although deals below this range were readily available to volume buyers. This week, deals have become increasingly prevalent, and one source indicated “no one would be surprised if things ticked down further.”

“It’s been rough. It’s been a tough few weeks and we’ve basically been selling X52 at a loss just to move some inventory,” a source said.
