US domestic steel pipe prices were steady to higher this week amid continued gains in US flat steel markets, pipe market insiders told SteelOrbis.
For the past 13 weeks, the Nucor Consumer Spot Price (CSP) for flat rolled coils has increased more than 19 percent to on average $1,045/nt ($1,152/mt), or $52.25/cwt., on a combination of strength in domestic scrap markets, reduced imports as a result of ongoing steel import tariffs, and solid domestic flat steel demand, market insiders said.
In the J55 OCTG casing pipe market, the SteelOrbis weekly price average is assessed at $1,620-1,660/ton FOB mill, with most transactions noted at $1,640/nt ($1,808/mt), or $82.00/cwt.
“We’re seeing J55 OCTG pipe prices up again this week on continued strength in flat steel markets,” said one US East Coast pipe trader.
In the hollow sections markets, domestic HSS production for A-500 grade material was priced on average at $1,780/nt ($1,962/mt), or $89.00/cwt., on an FOB mill basis. Import material from Korea and Vietnam for May and June delivery to customer on the US Gulf Coast is discussed at $1,200-$1,240/nt ($1,323-1,367/mt) or $60.00-62.00/cwt., insiders said.
In the standard pipe market, A-53 standard ERW material on an ex-mill basis, is last discussed flat at $1,700-$1,750/nt., ($1,874-$1,929/mt), or $85-$87.50/cwt. Import material is talked in thin trade at $1,240/nt ($1,367/mt), or $62.00/cwt., delivered to customers, up from on average $1,200/nt ($1,367/mt), or $60.00/cwt., two weeks earlier, insiders told SteelOrbis.
