Second US HSS price increase may be imminent

US hollow structural section (HSS) tubing prices continue to hold steady, at $44-$46 cwt. ($970-$1,014/mt or $880-$920/nt), ex-mill, although some sources have indicated that mills are still wanting to get prices up to $47 cwt. ($1,036/mt or $940/nt).

It’s further believed that in the wake of US flats mills’ having announced a third price increase, an increase announcement for HSS tubing is imminent. Activity is “reasonably good,” sources say, which, when coupled with rising HRC prices and a forecast uptick in US scrap prices during the August buy cycle, may support higher HSS price points.
